Kelp is a large, leafy brown algae that belongs to the seaweed family and grows in the colder waters of the world's oceans. Our kelp is from Galway, Ireland and is harvested by hand from the clean Atlantic sea. It is then dried at ambient temperatures (without the use of additional heat).
Kelp (Latin Laminaria digitata), like most seaweeds, is high in minerals including potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron and is an excellent source of iodine and protein.
Kelp powder can be sprinkled on salads or added to smoothies. It can also be used as a healthy alternative to salt.
My favourite way to use kelp powder is to mash an avocado with some lemon juice and add a teaspoon of kelp powder, I then use this mixture as a salad dressing or in raw sushi.
