Honey is the sweet liquid gold produced by our little friends the bumble bees. Raw honey contains enzymes up to 22 amino acids, 27 minerals and many different vitamins and it is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal.
Greece has more beehives per acre than any other country in Europe and Greek honey is considered to be some of the finest honey in the world. This is largely due to the rich variety of Greek flora and unlimited summer sun.
I first thought about stocking honey a few years back and started asking around locally where I live in Arta. the first place I enquired was with Dimitri an old man who lives only minutes away from me, my husband’s family have been buying their honey from him for years. He is a very modest old fashioned traditional man, and I’ve been buying my honey from him ever since.
Dimitri has been using the same method of producing honey for over 5 decades, his honey is un-filtered which means that the pollen remains in the honey and the honey's delicate taste is not disturbed.
The honey is also not heated or pastuerised so all the enzymes are in tact. And the bees are cared for; they only feed on honey and not sugar or syrup and they are not given given antibiotics like many commercial bees.
At the time I was being a snob and was looking for a honey which was certified organic with pretty labels for my e-shop. I kept Dimitri in mind but started looking elsewhere.
Over the years I tried many different varieties of honey from all over the country, at one point I had a cupboard full of honey; some good and some not so good. Because of the excess honey I had at home some time passed before I visited Dimitri again, but I recently brought home a jar of this seasons fresh honey I opened the jar and smelt the delicate floral aroma, then grabbed a spoon and took a taste. At that point i knew I had to stop kidding myself and go with my heart. I want to share this amazing product with the world. I have never had honey this good in my life. I can promise you that once you have tried this honey you will be blown away. It is sweet and sticky as honey should be, but it has the most amazing floral aroma and flavour, it is light in colour and runny and the flavour is out of this world.
This particular variety of honey is from the blossom of wild flowers and herbs, We were only able to get hold of a limited amount of stock so get it while it lasts because once you’ve tried it you’ll want to order more.
