Menstruation Goods

Why choose a menstrual cup? They are better for the environment More economical in the long run And safer then tampons and sanitary towels. Why is a menstrual cup better for the environment? The average woman uses approximately 17,000 tampons or sanitary towels in her lifetime. Do the math and that is a whopping 4.3 billion items (sanitary towels, tampons, panty liners) used in a year in the UK alone. These disposable feminine hygiene products are either flushed down the toilet causing blocked drains or added to landfill waste creating billions of tons of disposable waste. And that’s not all these products contain chemical additives that also leach into the environment (groundwater, streams and lakes) causing serious pollution and health concerns. If that isn’t reason enough to switch to a menstrual cup how about the fact that in the long run a menstrual cup is kinder on the pocket. Because menstrual cups are re-usable there is no more worry about stocking up on pads or tampons every month, just use, clean and re-use. Forget the embarrassing moments when you may drop your hand bag or your toddler decides to empty its contents and your sanitary products are thrown across the floor of a restaurant or busy high street. As if that isn’t reason enough to switch to a menstrual cup how about peace of mind. Tampons absorb the self cleansing natural fluids which the vagina produces to wash away dead cells and bacteria keeping it clean and moist. A menstrual cup on the other hand, is non-absorbent and simply collects the menstrual flow, leaving the natural moisture level in the vagina undisturbed. And most tampons and pads contain surfactants, adhesives and additives which are all harmful especially when you think about the part of the body they come into close contact with 24/7 for 3-7 days a month. In addition, most pads contain polyethylene plastic whose production is a pollutant and dioxin, a by-product of the bleaching process of tampons, which contains rayon a known carcinogen. So if you haven’t already bought a menstrual cup help save the environment and get yours here today.
